Hi! I’m Sara of Yarn Over Crochet.

I started this blog because I love trying new things and taking what some might call excessively detailed notes. I am still on my crochet journey and am by no means an expert. I learned crochet using the internet (mostly YouTube), and though I have a few friends who crochet, learning a craft like crochet online involved a lot of stumbling blocks.

When I began crochet, I started with an amigurumi kit from Stitch & Story, which has written instructions and free videos. Starting with a single appendage of my amigurumi, I slowly and painfully learned the most basic stitch. The resources provided were well-done, but I soon realized that there were a lot of things I just didn’t know, starting with the difference in UK and US terminology. Not having a grounding in crochet made finding basic YouTube videos from other perspectives frustrating. If not for the fact that I had bought the kit to make my daughter a stuffed Snoopy doll, I may have quit.

As I was nearing the completion of Snoopy, I suddenly realized that I was becoming anxious about not having something new to work on, and the research began. I would watch videos about yarn types, stitches, patterns, etc. and buy different fibers and thicknesses of yarns just to see what they’d work up like. What started as a potentially interesting hobby has become an obsession, so this blog is my notebook of resources and experiments – and a great excuse to keep trying new things.

Hopefully you have fun learning with me, and if you ever have a suggestion for a fun experiment or you’d like to collaborate, don’t hesitate to contact me!
